2022 Anchorage Korean Community (AKC) Scholarship

GENERAL INFORMATION

  1. Awards: $1,000 scholarships to 10-20 students
  2. Eligibility: College-bound, graduating seniors in the Anchorage-area. Min 3.0 GPA.1

Proof of college/school acceptance must be submitted prior to award disbursement

  • Application Deadline: April 22, 2022 (NEW DEADLINE)
  • Notification Deadline: April 27, 2022
  • Award Ceremony: May 6, 2022 @5:30pm, Loussac Library (3600 Denali St, Anchorage, AK 99503)

REQUIRED MATERIALS test report

  1. Completed application form
  2. First Essay2: personal statement on (a) applicant’s background, identity, (b) career goals/interests OR lessons learned from a challenge/failure
  3. Second Essay3: essay on Korean history, culture, or first-hand experience with Korean Americans.
  4. 2 letters of recommendation: At least, 1 from a high school teacher. The 2nd must be from a teacher or a non-related adult who knows the student well.
  5. Resume or list of extracurricular activities
  6. A copy of the applicant’s unofficial transcript
  7. A copy of unofficial test (PSAT, SAT or ACT) report
  8. A copy of the applicant’s college acceptance letter

REVIEW PROCESS

  • The AKC Scholarship application packages will be reviewed by the AKC Scholarship Committee. Their decisions are final
  • Late applications will not be reviewed or considered
  • Incomplete applications will not be reviewed or considered

AWARD NOTIFICATION

  • The AKC Scholarship award notice will be sent via e-mail. Selected awardees must respond within 7 days; those who do not respond will be automatically disqualified.
  • Recipients MUST attend the award ceremony. Those who do not attend the ceremony will forfeit the award.
  • The AKC Scholarship application package will not be returned.

TERMS:

  • Funds must be used exclusively for: tuition, fees, books, and/or room and board.
  • Begin college attendance within 12 months of high school graduation.
  • Within 12 months of college attendance, email KACA a report with receipts that detail how the Scholarship was used.
  • E-mail KACA with any updated contact information, so invitations to future AKC Scholarship events may be sent.
  • The Korean American Community of Anchorage (KACA) reserves all rights including but not limited to: copyrights, and rights for reproduction, distribution, performance and display for the materials submitted  to the AKC scholarship committee.

  • Grades and test scores are accurate as presented; and
    • The submitted essay is your own work and was written without any assistance from others

Applicants in violation are subject to disqualification from all scholarship consideration. Any decision in this regard is made at the sole discretion of the AKC Scholarship Committee.
